In response to the DfE’s announcement about the Reception baseline on 7 April, Greg Watson, the Chief Executive of GL Assessment, said:
“We are very pleased that the Reception baseline assessments will now be used for the most important purpose; to provide an informed picture of a child so that they can have the best possible start at school. Removing the shackles of accountability from these assessments is a very positive step forward. I hope that they will now be used to provide teachers with insights into what additional help a child might need, as well as the opportunity to get the right support in place at the earliest opportunity.”
