We find MIST extremely useful to identify children who are finding the basic literacy concepts challenging at the mid way point of the senior infants year... Forward Together provides us with a very useful tool to work with parents to help their children improve their literacy skills.Cliona Kelly, Scoil an Spioraid Naoimh Boys Primary School Bishopstown Cork
The Middle Infant Screening Test (MIST) and Forward TogetherProgramme focus on reading, writing and listening skills and together provide a comprehensive screening, diagnostic and recovery package for younger children.
MIST identifies early literacy difficulties and the Forward Together Programme provides a recovery programme that actively involves parents, for use with up to eight pupils. Lasting from eight to 12 weeks, the programme can bring pupils’ skill levels in reading and writing up to that of their classmates, raising confidence and self-esteem. Each pupil works through the Forward Together Activity Book at home with the help of a parent, or in school with Learning Support staff.
Results from MIST give an overall picture of a pupil's performance and their learning strategies in functions which are related significantly to early reading and writing.
