Speaker Biography

Rhona Stainthorp began her professional life teaching in a secondary school.  The issues she was presented with in terms of pupils being unable to read for learning led to her studying psychology at Birkbeck College London to find out why some people have difficulty reading.  Since that time she has been involved in the training of teachers about how people learn to read and write and how these data can inform effective teaching.  Her research programme relates to the development of reading and writing including studies of children who find reading very easy as well as those who have barriers to developing literacy.
